Built on Cliniko's REST API

Cliniko exposes appointments, treatment notes, patients, invoices, recalls, availability, referral sources and more through a JSON REST API. Access uses per-user API keys with HTTP Basic Auth, so an automation only ever has the permissions the connected user already has in Cliniko.

Scheduled syncs, not real-time webhooks

Cliniko doesn't offer webhooks or push events, so automations poll the API on a schedule rather than reacting instantly. We design the polling frequency around what each automation needs and Cliniko's 200 requests-per-minute limit per user, so it stays fast without hitting the ceiling.

Australian data hosting

Cliniko's Australian instances run in the au1 region, so patient data hosted there stays onshore — a point most clinics care about under the Privacy Act 1988 (APP 11). We build the automation layer to match, using Australian infrastructure where the rest of your stack supports it.

Is this just a basic Cliniko sync?

No. Most agencies offer one generic Cliniko connector. LUNA builds the specific automation your clinic needs, using Cliniko's API as the foundation — recalls, reviews, intake, invoicing, reporting, or anything else your practice actually runs into.

Does this use real-time webhooks?

Cliniko doesn't offer webhooks or real-time push events, so no automation provider can claim true real-time syncing from Cliniko. LUNA's automations poll the Cliniko API on a schedule (respecting Cliniko's 200 requests-per-minute limit per user), which for clinic workflows like recalls, review requests, and reporting is more than fast enough in practice.

Is our patient data secure and Australian-hosted?

Cliniko's au1 region hosts data in Australia, and we build automations that keep data handling within Australian infrastructure where possible. Access uses per-user API keys with HTTP Basic Auth, so permissions match the Cliniko user role that generated the key — nobody gets more access than they already have in Cliniko.

What can you actually build against the Cliniko API?

Appointments (individual and group), treatment notes, medical alerts, patient cases and forms, patients, attachments, referral sources, recalls, availability and booking data, invoices and billable items, products, practitioner profiles and services, business settings, and more. If it's exposed in Cliniko's API, we can likely automate it.

How long does a custom Cliniko automation take to build?

It depends on scope. A single automation, like AHPRA-safe review requests or recall reminders, is typically a few weeks. Multi-automation builds (intake plus invoicing plus reporting) take longer. We scope it properly on a discovery call before quoting.

We're not on Cliniko. Can you still help?

Yes. LUNA connects with most Australian practice management systems — Halaxy, Power Diary, Best Practice, Medical Director, Genie, Coreplus and others. Cliniko has the deepest API, so custom automations are richest there, but we build around whatever your clinic already runs.
